Stores
Merchstack is a multi-store platform, which means that more than one store can exist within each tenant. But what exactly is a store?
At a simple level, stores are how we group products and categories. Each store has a unique taxonomy, including a unique set of products, categories, and a category hierarchy.
While you might think you intuitively know what a “store” is, things can become fuzzy when we introduce third-party platforms, multi-language requirements, headless implementations, and other more complex scenarios. In principle, it’s up to each organization to decide how you want to leverage Merchstack’s stores. But there are also some things to know to make this decision wisely.
Stores in Merchstack may not be 1:1 with the concept of stores in a third-party platform. This primarily comes down to how categories and category hierarchies are organized. In BigCommerce for example, customers can choose to use a feature called multi-storefront (MSF). This allows them to create and manage multiple unique category hierarchies within a single store. These are organized in what BigCommerce calls ‘Channels’. In this type of implementation, a Merchstack Store would be 1:1 with a BigCommerce Channel.
